In anticipation of the 2.2 million CRT TVs that will enter New Zealand's waste stream as Kiwis switch over to digital transmission next year, the country's government is asking businesses to come forward with solutions to expand its infrastructure for e-waste recycling. Called "TV Take Back," the government-funded initiative will solicit proposals from businesses, particularly retailers, to provide a recycling service that will make it easy for consumers to turn in their old set when getting a new one. The undertaking by the government is part of a broader effort to build the country's e-waste recycling infrastructure. So far, it's directed $1.4 million toward a network of 35 permanent depots that will accept televisions and computers.
