How Our Recycling Process Works?
The recycling process begins at the supplier's offices. DMD Systems Recovery offers two types of services, asset pickup & asset packaging. The difference between the two services is whether the assets are prepackaged and ready for pickup or DMD Systems employees are needed to disconnect the equipment from your network, stage, and prepare the equipment for transport. During the transportation phase, the equipment is locked in the trailer and sealed with a numeric seal that is verified upon arrival. After the seal is verified at our dock, a lot number is assigned to all of your equipment, and then each individual item is assigned a unique identification number to track your assets through the audit and reporting phase.

Audit Phase:
During the audit phase, pallets are broken down and equipment is analyzed to determine value. If the equipment does not have a potential resale value over $50, the equipment is inserted in to our auditing system and marked as recyclable material. Equipment that is typically marked as scrap are CRT monitors and computers older than four years, Laptops older than six years, and smaller equipment that has no resale value. Equipment that potentially has data on it is transferred to our data destruction area where our technical experts use Department of Defense approved software to clean your company's data from the drive. The serial number of the computer and the drive are captured in to our tracking system where the status is changed from pending to wiped or destroyed, and the status of drives can be reviewed at any time.
When the equipment has had the data removed, it is moved to the audit line where it is entered in to our custom inventory system. During this phase, we capture the serial number, asset number(s), quantity, manufacturer, description, and condition. Each piece of equipment is assigned an identification number that can be used later to track specific pieces of equipment.
Testing & Condition:After a piece of equipment has been audited, it reaches another decision making phase; testing and condition. All of the equipment is tested to make sure that all of the equipment is functional. Computers are ran through a visual inspection, checking for bad components or damage, as well as a 6-phase hardware test that stresses each main component in the system to test for potential failures. Printers, monitors, networking equipment, and other IT assets all go through similar tests to insure operation.
Remarketing:When the assets pass visual and hardware tests, they are prepared for remarketing, charitable donation, employee repurchasing plans, or redeployment to another location. While some units may pass most visual and hardware testing, occasionally, the will need some different levels of parts replacement or repair. These can be small aesthetic repairs or component level replacement. If the cost of repair or replacement does not outweigh the potential for remarketing, the unit is marked as recyclable material.
Redeployment:After an audit has been completed, DMD Systems believes that even the recyclable materials deserve a second chance at redeployment. These systems are typically taken apart by our engineers and each component, such as disk drives, memory, processors, etc., are retested and manufactured as individual components. After this step has been performed, the remaining equipment is recycled for chips on the circuit boards, copper wiring, or any other components that may be reused in future televisions, monitors, or common household equipment.
Documentation:
After an audit has been completed, DMD Systems compiles the data that has been collected and sends it to your company for analysis and removal of the assets from your inventory. After the audit documentation has been reviewed, DMD Systems will issue a Certificate of Destruction and Transfer of Ownership to release your company from any further liability.
Quality Control:
DMD Systems Recovery management will perform unplanned asset performance and quality checks to make sure that the process is being followed and to find any improvements that can be made. In the event that an auditor or system fails the asset performance and quality check, the entire process is performed again. In the event of multiple failures, a solution is quickly instituted to prevent future failures.
After 20 years, you would think that we have learned a thing or two about Asset Management and their processes. Give us a try today! We are eager to prove that you can trust DMD's Asset Management team.
