Data Security Responsibility

NAID AAA Certification

DMD is certified in I-SIGMA's NAID AAA Certification for data destruction services. Data destruction at DMD includes software-enabled wiping or physical destruction. DMD is NAID AAA certified for both onsite and offsite data destruction.
  • Onsite data destruction entails DMD performing data destruction services for a customer at their premise. Onsite is considered the most secure option but is associated with greater cost and time.
  • Offsite data destruction requires the transport of equipment to a NAID AAA-certified facility. Offsite data destruction requires less time and cost associated than onsite, with increased customer flexibility

I-SIGMA is an international trade association for secure information lifecycle management. In 2018, I-SIGMA merged with the National Association for Information Destruction (NAID) which formerly upheld the rules and regulations for the NAID AAA Certification. I-SIGMA membership (formally referred to as NAID membership) and NAID AAA Certification are often confused with one another and require different levels of commitment.
  • I-SIGMA Service Provider membership (formally referred to as NAID membership) allows anyone to join the association and state their membership status. They are provided resources by I-SIGMA to improve their shredding abilities but are not automatically considered NAID AAA from membership.
  • NAID AAA Certification demonstrates a firm’s commitment to best practices in the sanitization or physical destruction of electronic storage media. To obtain and uphold a NAID AAA Certification, the provider must pass annual, unannounced audits conducted by independent Certified Protection Professionals® (CPP).

Data Destruction Dilemma: Onsite vs Offsite

Environmental Responsibility

R2v3 Certification

DMD is certified in R2v3, the updated version of SERI's R2 certification. R2v3 ensures the safe disposal of electronics in reuse and recycling. The program was developed by key industry stakeholders including original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and leaders in the recycling industry.

DMD is certified in four R2v3 Appendices: Downstream Recycling Chain, Data Sanitization, Testing & Repair, and Brokering.

  • Appendix A, Downstream Recycling Chain, outlines the requirements and management for all of DMD's downstream vendors.
  • Appendix B, Data Sanitization, defines the processes and requirements for logical data sanitization and an enhanced level of physical sanitization. DMD is required to include tracking, verification, and quality controls for all sanitizations.
  • Appendix C, Testing and Repair, ensures during the testing and repair of all electronic devices or components for reuse the condition and functionality are verified and documented.
  • Appendix F, Brokering, defines the requirements for managing transfers of electronic equipment and materials directly from DMD to our downstream vendors.

R2v3 versus R2: What's Changed?

Complete Responsibility for

Operational Certification

The International Organization of Standardization (ISO) works with standards institutes in over 160 countries to develop technology and product standards. DMD is certified in three separate ISO areas: ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001. These standards demonstrate documented processes to improve our business operations.

  • ISO 9001 - Quality Management System (QMS) aids in the production of high-quality products and services.
  • ISO 14001 - Environmental Management Systems (EMS) enhances environmental performance with the fulfillment of compliance obligations and sustainability initiatives.
  • ISO 45001 - Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) improves employee safety and reduces workplace risks.

Social Certification

DMD strongly believes in the responsibility businesses play on bettering our society. While we have always been active with charitable foundations and other philanthropic endeavors over the years, we decided to formalize our beliefs and opinion.

We formalized our belief by becoming a Certified B Lab CorporationTM in 2020. As a certified B Lab Corporation, we formally commit to meeting the highest standards of verified social and environmental performance, public transparency, and legal accountability to balance profit and purpose.
